The other day, I discovered something very disturbing about myself and the rest of the world: we are addicted to franchises. Most of the movies this summer have been sequels or movie-versions of concepts with a proven track-record of success. I went and saw The Last Airbender , and even though I enjoyed the film, I realized that I had paid to see a movie that didn’t need to be made, because Avatar:The Last Airbender series was so good.

E3 is the mecca for video game news, and it is a no brainer for companies to roll out their latest and greatest efforts in glitzy press conferences to keep hardcore gamers happy. Well, Sony has upped the ante with their latest announcement of the PlayStation Move motion controller at E3 this year, bringing motion control capability to their PS3 console. It is rather ironic that they have jumped aboard the motion control bandwagon after pooh poohing Nintendo’s efforts last time when the Wii was launched, dubbing those “waggle controls”.

ThinkGeek aims to bring out the kid in you with the Mario R/C Cars set , where it will bring the game of Mario Kart into the real world. Of course, don’t expect these tiny R/C vehicles to be able to participate on tarmac tracks, but you can race on top of a kitchen table (we would personally prefer it to be done on the floor since it is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand with the remote control as well!) – just make sure you don’t steer your car off the table! You can choose between Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi, where they can all move forward and backward and turn left and right, while a “dash” button offers an extra burst of speed when you need it the most – guess this works only once per race?

Dolls always seem to have the strangest features, yes there are still normal dolls out there, but there are just as many oddballs. You can get babies that make noise, that pee their diaper and can even crawl away. The strangest of them all is always the one that can soil a fake diaper. Well now all the little girls of the world can have a doll to go with their Nintendo Wii. The doll has an opening to allow a Wiimote to be jammed into its back. It is created for the game Baby and Me . Within the game it has the girl do the normal things like rock the baby, burp it and even teach the doll to walk. It uses the speaker within the Wiimote to make the baby make the usual noises like crying and laughing. Although the doll looks ridiculous to every rational full grown adult, I’m sure one toy commercial for this would be enough to hook quite a few little girls.

There are plenty of Wii games around that require you to swing, well for those baseball themed ones, now you can really swing something. This Louisville Slugger will give a far more realistic aspect to the game when you need to be swinging. Of course this also means among kids that there’s more likely to be some minor injuries. Then again, you don’t really have to buy something like this for the younger ones if you have them. You’re obviously a worthy recipient of such an accessory. The bat is pretty self explanatory. You just pop in the remote and away it goes. Don’t worry, if you do happen to actually swing and connect with someone’s head, it won’t really hurt them. They might be a touch angry, but the bat is actually made out of foam. That foam will make it much more safe to use with kids around. Sony has seen the wisdom behind Nintendo’s motion control system that is employed in the Wii, helping an inferior hardware platform to achieve dominance in terms of sales across the globe due to its once-labelled “gimmicky” waggle controls. Well, they recently announced that they too, will be jumping aboard the motion control bandwagon in the near future with what looks like a simple microphone, and today we have confirmation from Sony Computer Entertainment that they will be rolling out a new Motion Controller for the PS3 as early as spring next year.

Considering the WiiFit and Dance Dance Revolution have sold well in the non-gaming crowd, I have been wondering when some company was going to come out with something like this. The Domyos Interactive System is targeting a whole new type of audience of non-gamers as it doesn’t require any console to plug it into, but fits right into any television set or display. From there, the user can work out with one of the game cartridges on an exercise mat that includes a sort of DDR type game that several players can join in on.

I don’t know about you, but personally I feel that most video game accessories are really not that essential, and with the Nintendo Wii getting a whole ton of shovelware for this generation while featuring games with simple waggle controls and very little substance, it also makes perfect sense for such a console to get a bunch of accessories that aren’t really worth what you pay for. Surely you don’t need a tennis extension to get a little bit more kick from Wii Sports, do you? After all, playing in a cramped room is bad enough as it is

LG Electronics does not only make great flat panel HDTVs for the living room, they have now entered into another arena, where the HealthView series of HDTVs were specially developed to cater to patient rooms, especially for Long-Term Care facilities. This new line of HDTVs ought to offer a sense of home-away-from-home with sleek flat-screen displays, crisper, clearer imaging and enhanced patient controls. No idea on what type of shows you will get while you’re bed ridden at the hospital, but I would personally prefer a good book, some snacks at the side and my trusty Nintendo DS Lite instead to keep me entertained while my maladies heal
